UCDC Law Program: Eligibility Requirements

  1. Students must be in the spring of their second or fall/spring of their third year of law school to participate in the Program. Students wishing to participate in their second year of law school may apply for the program in the Spring of their first year of law school.
  2. Students must check their unofficial transcripts and/or Schedule Builder to confirm that they are eligible to participate in this program in terms of units (on track to accrue 88 units to earn a King Hall J.D.), course requirements (will successfully complete courses satisfying the writing requirement, skills requirement, and professional responsibility requirement by the desired graduation date), and other academic planning issues.
  3. Students must confirm that they do not have too many externship/clinical units to participate in this program. No more than 20 units of courses numbered Law 400 or above (including the UCDC externship) and non-law courses at any UC may be taken for credit towards King Hall J.D. See Regulation 1.4(B)(3). No more than 14 of these units may be taken in externships, which includes the 10-unit UCDC externship. See Regulation 1.4(B)(5). Note: the 3-unit seminar, “Law and Lawyering in the Nation’s Capital” is a graded course and is not included in the calculations of Regulation 1.4(B).
