King Hall Students Excel at Student Trial Advocacy Competition and the Capitol City Challenge

King Hall students successfully competed in two trial competitions over the March 2-5 weekend: the 2018 regional Student Trial Advocacy Competition (STAC) and the 2018 Capitol City Challenge. Tanvi Shaw ’19, Molly Miram ’19, Anthony Mendoza ’18 and Nick Chase ’18 represented King Hall at STAC in Seattle. Chris Machold ’20, Ashley Bateman ’20, Dale Clemons ’20 and Harita Nandivada ’20 competed at the Capitol City Challenge in Washington D.C.

According to trial practice instructor and coach Dennis Cota ’86, “the UC Davis students distinguished themselves in their display of courtroom skills and  mastery of the Federal Rules of Evidence, while at all times demonstrating their commitment to the highest standards of ethics and professional etiquette. The King Hall community can be proud.”

At STAC, presented by the American Association for Justice, the King Hall team overcame UC Berkeley, the University of Idaho, and the University of Washington to compete in the semi-finals against Arizona State University. At the Capitol City Challenge, hosted by American University, the King Hall team swept the ballots in rounds against Golden Gate University and McGeorge School of Law, advancing to the quarter-finals in the team’s first national championship competition.

Cota thanked STAC Coach Helane Seikaly and Capitol City Challenge Coach Ron Scholar, “each of whom dedicated tremendous time and effort to bring together the amazing combination of skill, energy and dedication of their respective teams.” He also thanked Dean Kevin R. Johnson, Associate Dean Madhavi Sunder, Professor Edward Imwinkelried and “the entire King Hall family” for their support.
