Current Mabie Law Library Hours and Calendar

Visiting the Law Library

The Law Library is located inside King Hall on the UC Davis campus. Please see our Directions page for driving directions and parking information.

At present, entrances to King Hall are not open to members of the public. To ensure access to the Law Library for law study or legal research purposes during our normal business hours, visitors are encouraged to call ahead for an appointment.  After-hours access to Law Library spaces is limited to UC Davis School of Law affiliates. The Law Library is unavailable as a study area for non-law students.

Study rooms and the Main, North, and South Reading Rooms are reserved for UC Davis Law students' use. Visitors may use unoccupied carrels in the stacks and Reserves Room only. Please note that for carrels assigned to law students, visitors may use them until the student assigned to the carrel returns. During reading and exam periods, all seating other than the Reserve Room is reserved for law students.

Computers in the Library Lobby may be used by anyone for legal research. Computers are not available for email or word processing. Food and drink are not permitted near computers.

Using the Collection

Visitors are welcome to use the Law Library’s print collection. Please note that we maintain updated subscriptions to select print legal resources only. Visitors are encouraged to contact us before visiting with any questions about our print collection.

Non-UC Davis affiliates may borrow circulating items with proper identification. See our Circulation Services page for more information.

Accessing Online Law Library Resources

Visitors have on-site access to select Law Library databases. We are unable to provide non-UC Davis Law School affiliates with access to databases such as Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg Law. The Sacramento County Law Library provides on-site access to Lexis+ and the Yolo County Law Library provides access to Westlaw. Please see our Free and Low-Cost Legal Research guide for more information on online legal resources available to the public.

Reference Services

Reference Librarians are available to assist visitors with locating print and online resources through the Mabie Law Library. Librarians can also provide research tips, but are not able to give legal advice or to do legal research on demand. Reference librarians are available via email at [email protected] or by telephone at (530) 752-0210.

For more information, please view our Reference Services page.
