Mila and Ernie Llorente '75 Support Student Summer Public Interest Work

Mila and Ernie Llorente ’75 have made a gift to establish a public interest internship fund at UC Davis School of Law. 

The Mila and Ernie Llorente ’75 Public Interest Internship will provide stipends to support students who work for city or county governmental agencies during the summer, with a preference for positions in the Bay Area.

The Llorentes made the gift in recognition of Ernie’s UC Davis Law education. It allowed him to pursue his successful, groundbreaking career as the first Filipino American to serve as a government attorney for the City and County of San Francisco, Ernie said. He worked as a deputy public defender and later deputy city attorney.

The couple intend the fund to provide meaningful opportunities for UC Davis students interested in pursuing careers in public service. 

“I know how important it is to have underrepresented groups serve in these positions of influence and power,” Ernie Llorente said. “Mila and I hope that this grant will help law students consider public service as a worthwhile career.”
