The Association of American Law Schools’ Art Law section will present its first-ever Art Law Scholarship Award to Professor Brian Soucek and Columbia University Teachers College Associate Professor Jennifer C. Lena, for their 2025 Cornell Law Review article “Tax Law as Muse.”

Professor Shayak Sarkar presented his ongoing research on the taxation of domestic workers at the National Tax Association in Boston and the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law Advanced Topics in Taxation Colloquium.

Professor Shayak Sarkar has joined the American Bar Foundation’s Wheeler Committee, the nonprofit research institute’s external research review panel.

Shayak Sarkar's scholarship addresses the structure and legal regulation of inequality. His substantive interests lie in financial regulation, employment law, immigration, and taxation.

Professor Elizabeth Joh spoke to Wired for a Nov. 5 story headlined “Zohran Mamdani Just Inherited the NYPD Surveillance State.”

The mayor-elect’s progressive ideals conflict with the city’s police surveillance policies, Joh said. She noted that immigration enforcement will “almost certainly be a flashpoint,” since “the use of technology in that context is alarming people.”

In October, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed California Senate Bill 82, which seeks to end “infinite arbitration clauses,” as outlined in Professor David Horton’s highly influential 2020 University of Pennsylvania Law Review article of the same name.

An illustrious group of scholars from UC Davis Law and beyond gathered on Friday, Oct. 31 for a well-attended UC Davis Law Review symposium honoring Professor and longtime Dean Kevin R. Johnson.

Professor David Sandino presented at the 48th Fulbright Association Conference, held Oct. 24-26 at Florida International University in Miami.

Sandino’s presentation was titled “Avoiding Groundwater Overdraft, Land Subsidence, and Contamination: Sustainable Groundwater Management Around the Globe.”  

The Fulbright Association is an independent nonprofit and the American alumni organization of the Fulbright program.

Congratulations to Professor Lisa R. Pruitt, who has reached the 25-year milestone as a faculty member at UC Davis School of Law.

Pruitt, who arrived at the law school in 1999, will be honored Wednesday, Oct. 22 at an event celebrating the latest members of UC Davis’ exclusive Quarter Century Club.

The Brigitte Bodenheimer Research Scholar and a Distinguished Professor of Law, Pruitt received the law school’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2020.

Professor Kelly Behre has been appointed to the American Bar Association Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence. She will serve a one-year term.

Behre previously served on the commission from 2018-21, before she termed out.
