I had the privilege of spending the morning of Saturday, June 3 offering remarks at the Unity Bar Summit in Sacramento. The event brought together leaders from the many unity bar associations, including a diverse group of attorneys, across the state.
We had many alums in attendance, including Toso Himel '75, Justice Shama Mesiwala '98, Judge Charles Lee '02, Clement Kong '75, and more attended.
I had the opportunity to share thoughts about our late colleague, Justice Cruz Reynoso, and his commitment for social justice.
Today is Juneteenth, which marks the abolition of slavery in the United States.
Chancellor May says, "While Juneteenth is a day of joy, it's also a reminder of our nation's history, of how far we have come, and how far we have yet to go in the name of equity and social justice."
We hope you will join us in taking time for reflection and advocacy today.

Our own Associate Director of Admission, Lindsay Chuang, visited Chancellor May's residence last week. He hosted a breakfast for staff members from departments across campus. It was a wonderful morning complete with fellowship, a fostered sense of shared purpose, and a recognition of collective progress.
During the visit, Chancellor May and Lindsay discussed new ideas to promote diversity in the law school community. We are fortunate to have a chancellor focused on DEIB initiatives as well as King Hall admissions experts like Lindsay!

It was great seeing the students be honored for their studies. Professors Raquel Aldana, Amagda Pérez, and Shayak Sarkar joined me in awarding the immigration law certificates to the students who took the necessary courses.
I was pleased to receive this photo of our own Executive Analyst Starla Bennett with former UC Davis undergraduate student turned Class of 2023 King Hall grad.
