Supplementing Public Salaries With Private Donations

Professor John B. Oakley was quoted in the Los Angeles Times on a proposal before the UC Regents to allow private donations to supplement the salaries of top UC executives. Oakley, a faculty representative and non-voting member of the Board of Regents, said it set a bad precedent and might allow outside influences on the university. A committee vote on the plan was scheduled for this Thursday, but was delayed until November after Oakley and other faculty representatives and Regents raised concerns.
