Professors Aldana, Soucek Discuss Trump Higher-Education Compacts

Professors Raquel Aldana and Brian Soucek joined UC Davis Associate Professor of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies Rana Jaleel on the Oct. 7 episode of The Lower Frequencies podcast, “The Trump Higher Education Compacts.”

Raquel E. Aldana joined UC Davis in 2017 to serve as the inaugural Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Diversity and returned to full-time law teaching in 2020. Aldana’s research has focused on transitional justice, criminal justice reforms and sustainable development in Latin America, as well as immigrant rights. She has authored or edited five books and published over 30 law review articles or book chapters. She is a graduate of Arizona State University and Harvard Law School.

Professor Brian Soucek is a constitutional law scholar and philosopher of art whose work ranges from equality and free speech law, to academic freedom, to topics at the intersection of law and aesthetics. He holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. He has clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Mark R. Kravitz in Connecticut, and Judge Guido Calabresi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Professor Soucek is a UC Davis Chancellor’s Fellow. He is the author of The Opinionated University: Academic Freedom, Diversity, and the Myth of Neutrality in American Higher Education published by the University of Chicago Press.
