Professor Ziegler Named UC Davis Chancellor's Leadership Professor

Chancellor Gary S. May has appointed Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law Mary Ziegler as a UC Davis Chancellor’s Leadership Professor. 

The five-year appointment recognizes outstanding scholarship and contributions to campus and includes $25,000 in research support funds each academic year.

Ziegler joined the UC Davis Law faculty in 2022. A Guggenheim Fellow and member of the American Law Institute, she is an expert on the law, history and politics of reproduction, health care and conservatism in the United States from 1945 to the present.

Ziegler is the author of several critically acclaimed books. Her articles have appeared in the California Law Review, Harvard Law Review,  Michigan Law Review and Yale Law Journal, among other leading journals.

In 2026, Ziegler received the second award for Contributions to Public Policy from the Organization of American Historians. The honor recognizes her significant contributions to U.S. public policy through historical research.
