Professor Hing on Immigration Report in SF Chronicle, Greeley Tribune
Professor Bill Ong Hing commented on a recent report on workplace immigration raids for news stories in the San Francisco Chronicle and Greeley Tribune. The report, produced by a national commission of labor and community leaders and released June 18 following a two-year investigation, alleges Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents abused workers and violated their constitutional rights in a series of raids at Swift meatpacking plants. Professor Hing served on the commission.
"I was totally shocked by the level of abuse," Professor Hing told the Chronicle. "ICE showed up with weapons drawn and no warrants... We saw deprivation of prescription drugs, separation of newborns from nursing mothers."
Bill Ong Hing is recognized nationally as an immigration law and community lawyering expert. He is the founder of the Immigrant Legal Resource Center in San Francisco.
