Associate Dean Amar's Congressional Testimony in Washington Post
Associate Dean Vikram Amar's testimony before Congress on March 11 was mentioned in the Washington Post in "Capitol Briefing," a political blog on the Post's website. Associate Dean Amar was in Washington to will speak to the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution and the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, regarding the issue of whether special elections should be required to fill Senate vacancies that currently may be filled by gubernatorial appointment. Associate Dean Amar discussed, among other things, the constitutionality of proposed legislation by Rep. Aaron Shock of Illinois, which would amend existing law to allow governors to appoint a senator to serve until a special election could be held, asserting that the measure was "constitutionally permissible."
