Upcoming Estate Planning Event with King Hall Alums

Join UC Davis Law alumni, Kelly Balamuth '94 and Timothy Watson '91, for a virtual panel about estate planning on Jan. 25 at 12 p.m. Pacific.

Estate planning is as simple as ABC:

Swearing In of Kelli Evans '94 to California Supreme Court

The New Year began on a high note for UC Davis School of Law. I had the honor of attending the swearing in of Kelli Evans '94 as an Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court. Governor Newsom swore in Justice Evans in a ceremony in the beautiful California Third District Court of Appeal across the street from the State Capitol. The Governor also swore in the new Chief Justice of California, Patricia Guerrero.   It was a wonderful and warm ceremony.

Turkeys Roam King Hall

The December holiday break is usually a quiet time around the law school – as well as the entire city of Davis. This week, however, King Hall saw a flicker of excitement when a rafter – yes, a group of turkeys is called a rafter – somehow entered the building. Although only a few made it in, they left quite a mess in a short time.

Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays

Warmest wishes for a happy, restful and healthy holiday - it has been a wonderful year!

A Celebratory Swearing-in Ceremony

Last Friday night was special at UC Davis School of Law. Sacramento Superior Court Judge Lawrence Brown, Class of 1989, and U.S. District Judge Ana de Alba swore in new attorneys from the Class of 2022.

This amazing class weathered the challenges of law school during a global pandemic. And, as law students, they collectively dedicated 30,000 hours to public service while in school. Our future is in good hands.

A Nail-biter of an Aggie Men's Basketball Game

On Dec. 1, I attended an exciting UC Davis men's basketball game at the Pavilion on campus with UC Davis School of Law alum Bill Mantle '74. Earlier this season, the team had knocked off UC Berkeley at Berkeley, the first time ever!  The Aggies had just returned from a three-game tournament in Milwaukee and had an enthusiastic home crowd behind them as they faced off against the University of Pacific Tigers.

Bill is an avid Aggies sports fan and enjoyed a courtside view. Sitting nearby was Lindsay Chuang  from our admissions office, with her daughter.

Withdrawal from Participation in U.S. News Law School Rankings

Dear UC Davis School of Law Community,

Beginning today, UC Davis School of Law will no longer provide data to U.S. News & World Report for use in compiling its law school rankings. This decision has been made after receiving guidance from the law faculty, campus leadership, students, alumni, and others.

Save the Date: MLK Day of Service and Celebration

On January 16, 2023, King Hall's Black Law Students Association, along with the MLK Day working group and the Office for Student Affairs, will be hosting the 4th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Celebration! This will be a great opportunity to give back to the local community.

Federalist Society Event Features Judge Ryan Holte '08

The UC Davis Chapter of the Federalist Society this week hosted Ryan Holte '08, judge of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Judge Holte spoke to the group. Minority Leader of the California Assembly James Gallagher '07 was among those in attendance.
