Appellate Advocacy Students Hear State Supreme Court Arguments, Meet Justices

On Feb. 4, Third District Court of Appeal Justice and King Hall Adjunct Professor Shama Hakim Mesiwala ’98 and her Appellate Advocacy class attended California Supreme Court oral arguments at a special setting of the court in Sacramento’s historic Library and Courts Building.

After watching the five oral arguments, Mesiwala and her students attended a reception where they conversed with justices and dignitaries including the Chief Justice of California, Patricia Guerrero, Justices Carol Corrigan and Joshua Groban, and Judicial Appointments Secretary Luis Céspedes.

Justice Mesiwala will deliver the keynote speech at UC Davis Law’s Class of 2026 commencement on May 9. Chief Justice Guerrero was the keynote speaker for the law school’s 2023 commencement.
