Admission/Financial Aid office receives Diversity and Principles of Community Award

UC Davis Law’s Admission and Financial Aid Office has been awarded UC Davis’ 2020 Soaring to New Heights Diversity and Principles of Community Department/Unit/Team Award.

The award recognizes teams who exemplify the campus’ Principles of Community and work to create a more inclusive campus for all.

The recipients are Admission and Financial Aid Assistant Manuel Alvarez; Assistant Director of Admission Alexis Elston; Director of Financial Aid Montré Everett; Assistant Director of Financial Aid Ronnie Lewis; Assistant Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Kristen Mercado; Director of Admission and Outreach Joe Schneider; and Admission Operations Coordinator Karen Sewell.

In nominating the team for the award, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Afra Afsharipour wrote:

“The School of Law’s Admissions Office is instrumental to advancing our mission to provide the highest quality legal education to outstanding students from all backgrounds. The Law School’s last five entering classes have been comprised of more than 50% students of color. The Fall 2019 entering class was the most diverse ever — students of color compose 57 percent of the class, and women make up 58 percent. A quarter of the students are the first in their families to graduate from college, and about 40 percent receive need-based aid.”
