Professor West Speaks at Northern Michigan University

Professor Martha S. West spent two days at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, working with women faculty and the American Association of University Professors faculty union as part of the university's UNITED Conference held September 21-26.  She spoke on "Gender Equity in Academia" and conducted an afternoon workshop for women faculty and administrators, exploring issues of timely promotion to full professor, the need for adequate paid family leave for women faculty and staff, and the difficulties of recruiting academic couples.

Prior to her retirement, Professor West taught courses on Employment Discrimination, Labor Law, and Sex-based Discrimination at UC Davis School of Law. Her research has focused on discrimination against women faculty in higher education.
