Professor Chander Comments on School District's Social Media Monitoring for Christian Science Monitor

Professor Anupam Chander commented for the Christian Science Monitor on the Glendale Unified School District's monitoring of its students' social media accounts.  The move, which comes in response to concerns that bullying on social media has led to suicides in other districts, has been criticized by some as a possible infringement of students' rights to privacy and free expression.

"The response is understandable, but students will feel their speech chilled knowing that the school district is watching," said Professor Chander.

Professor Anupam Chander is a leading scholar in the law of globalization and digitization, and has written widely on international law and cyber law.  He is also Director of the California International Law Center at King Hall.
