Dean Johnson Comments for Southern California Public Radio on Same-Sex Marriage and Immigration

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for Southern California Public Radio station KPCC on whether comprehensive immigration reform proposals under consideration in Washington are likely to include provisions enabling same-sex couples to sponsor a foreign-born partner for an immigrant visa.

"Immigration is a hot button issue, and same-sex marriage is an arguably even hotter issue, more controversial," he said. "And I think that Republicans in the House who are already starting to gear up for a re-election campaign, and Democrats in the House who are going to face re-election, they are much more likely to be more conservative on same-sex marriage in immigration reform."

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
