Raha Jorjani Wins Ninth Circuit Victory

Raha Jorjani, Staff Attorney and Lecturer in the Immigration Law Clinic at the UC Davis School of Law, won an impressive victory on behalf of a clinic client in a recent unpublished decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  The case involved a Canadian man's application for naturalization that was denied by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on the basis that his conviction in Canada of an aggravated felony disqualified him from satisfying the moral character requirement.  The Court agreed with Jorjani's contention that the Canadian conviction did not qualify as an aggravated felony under U.S. law, and remanded the case to federal district court for further proceedings.
