Judge Judy Hersher '84 Appointed to California State-Federal Judicial Council

Tani Cantil-Sakauye '84, Chief Justice of California, has appointed Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Judy Hersher '84 to the California State-Federal Judicial Council.   The Council is co-chaired by the Chief Justice and the Honorable Arthur L. Alarcon, Senior Circuit Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  It consists of seven state court judges and seven federal judges, whose purpose is the elimination of actual or potential conflicts between the two judicial systems; the development of methods to improve the operation of the two systems; the improvement of the quality of representation and ethics of attorneys practicing in the two systems; the sharing of materials and fostering closer cooperation on resolution of joint problems.  The appointment is for three years.

Judge Hersher is a member of the King Hall Alumni on the Bench Association and the Alumni Association Board of Directors.  She left a partnership at Downey, Brand, Seymour, & Rohwer to be sworn in as a Sacramento Superior Court Judge in February 2001.  She has been an active member of Women Lawyers of Sacramento, and has been honored with the Sacramento County Bar Association Humanitarian of the Year and Judge of the Year awards.
