Amagda Pérez to Receive Phillip Burton Immigration and Civil Rights Lawyering Award

Amagda Pérez, Director of the UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic and Executive Director of the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, will be honored with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center's 2012 Phillip Burton Immigration & Civil Rights Lawyering Award at the ILRC's annual awards dinner on May 17.  The award honors Pérez for her outstanding commitment, dedication, and leadership in providing legal services for low income immigrants, including those in California's most remote and underserved communities. 

Amagda Pérez earned her J.D. from King Hall in 1991, where she served as co-chair of La Raza Law Students Association, worked in the Immigration Law Clinic, and was honored with the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service and Leadership Award.  In 1994, she joined the King Hall faculty in the Immigration Law Clinic, and in 2007 was named its director. She is the recipient of the Law School's 2010 Distinguished Teaching Award.
