Professor Chin Comments on Alleged Hate Crime for Lawyers.com

Professor Gabriel "Jack" Chin commented for Lawyers.com on theft, assault, and hate-crime charges filed against a high-level Stanley Morgan official who allegedly stabbed a cab driver while using racial slurs.  The accused has claimed the cabdriver attempted to overcharge and abduct him.

While noting that "you can use self-defense to prevent yourself from being kidnapped," Chin stated that the facts of this case are likely to prove difficult to determine.  "In some situations what happened is clear from objective evidence," Chin said. "In a situation like this, it's not even certain that somebody committed a crime....  It's hard to know what really happened. I suspect that this is going to be a tough case to prove."

Gabriel "Jack" Chin, who joined the King Hall faculty in 2011, is a prolific and much-cited criminal and immigration law scholar whose work has addressed many of the most pressing social issues of our time.
