Dean Kevin R. Johnson, former Dean Rex Perschbacher, and Professor Clay Tanaka attended the confirmation hearing of the Commission on Judicial Appointments on Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's nomination of Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, a 1984 graduate of King Hall, as Chief Justice of California. Justice Cantil-Sakauye personally invited Johnson, Perschbacher, Tanaka, and UC Davis School of Law Director of Marketing and Public Relations Pamela Wu to attend the hearing at the California Supreme Courthouse in San Francisco.
Testimony was heard by the three-member Commission on Judicial Appointments: Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald George, Attorney General Jerry Brown, and Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Joan Dempsey Klein. Cantil-Sakauye was unanimously confirmed.
In a meeting immediately preceding Cantil-Sakauye's confirmation, the Commission unanimously confirmed Louis Mauro '87 as an Associate Justice for the 3rd Appellate District Court of Appeal. Johnson, Perschbacher, and Wu were there as Mauro was sworn-in.
