Law School to Celebrate Opening of 'New' King Hall Sept. 3

KingHall

UC Davis School of Law marked the beginning of an exciting new era this week as faculty and staff began the move into King Hall's new east wing.  Meanwhile, as construction crews put the finishing touches on the building and landscaping, preparations are under way for a Grand Opening & Ribbon-Cutting Celebration and Open House on September 3.

Law School faculty including Dean Kevin R. Johnson began the much-anticipated move to new office spaces in the expansion wing during the first week in August.  Instruction will begin in the new classrooms August 23.

Throughout this month, crews will work to finish the landscaping, walkways, and lighting that will be part of the Law School's striking new east entryway.  Similarly, work is proceeding on the enclosed courtyard, where pavers and landscaping are being installed around the large evergreen pear trees that will be a prominent feature of the revamped courtyard.   Inside, the reception rooms are being furnished with cherry wood paneling to match classrooms and offices, and classrooms are being fitted with video screens and other technology.  Furniture is being moved into offices and classrooms, as the Law School readies to take full occupancy of the building in coming weeks.

To mark the occasion of the east wing's completion and occupancy, UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi will host a Grand Opening & Ribbon-Cutting Celebration on September 3 beginning at 10 a.m. in Mrak Hall Circle.  The event will include remarks from Chancellor Katehi and Dean Johnson.  Building tours will commence immediately following the ribbon-cutting.

In addition, the Law School will host an Open House following the Ribbon-Cutting.  Light refreshments will be available and King Hall staff and students will be stationed around the building to provide information on various features of the new facility.
