Golf TournamentSupporters of King Hall, including faculty, alumni, students, and friends attended the 1st Annual Steve Boutin Invitational Golf Tournament on Saturday.  The event was a benefit for the King Hall Legal Foundation (KHLF), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting public interest legal work and ensuring that the law students address the needs of those without adequate access to legal services.

Eighteen teams of 72 golfers hit the links at Wildhorse Golf Club in Davis.  Players included Spyros Tseregounis, UC Davis Chemical Engineering Professor and husband of Chancellor Linda Katehi; Sacramento Superior Court Judges David De Alba and Troy Nunley; and the tournament's namesake, UC Davis School of Law Alumni Board President Steve Boutin '72.

The team of Professor Dennis J. Ventry, Jr., Christina Ahn ‘10, Danny Gorczyca ‘11, and Jason Redmond '11 took the trophy (pictured, left).  Joel Larson won the Long Drive and Closest to the Pin contests.

The tournament was followed by a lunch program, where Dean Kevin R. Johnson addressed the attendees and thanked them for their support of KHLF.  KHLF grant recipients Maryam Sayyed '10 and Shay Fluharty '09 also spoke, sharing their experiences of working in public interest law.

Because KHLF is managed by student volunteers, almost all of the money that KHLF raises goes directly toward support of law students working in the public interest, including Bar and Summer Grants programs, which awarded $59,000 in grants to 15 King Hall students in 2009.
