Law School to Celebrate Opening of ‘New’ King Hall Sept. 3

UC Davis School of Law marked the beginning of an exciting new era
this week as faculty and staff began the move into King Hall’s new
east wing.  Meanwhile, as construction crews put the finishing touches
on the building and landscaping, preparations are under way for a
Grand Opening & Ribbon-Cutting Celebration and Open House on
September 3.  Join us to celebrate this important milestone!

Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye ’84 Named
California Supreme Court Chief Justice

Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye '84 has been named by Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger as his choice for the next Chief Justice of the
California Supreme Court.  Shortly after the governor’s announcement,
Judge Cantil-Sakauye, a frequent volunteer at King Hall, agreed to
deliver the commencement address for the UC Davis School of Law
Class of 2011.

Alumni Profile: Robert Mendez, Class of 1980

When Robert Mendez came to King Hall, he wasn’t sure what kind of
lawyer he wanted to be.  “I only knew that I wanted to make a
difference,” he said.  Today, he can look back on a rich and varied
career that includes his current position as Senior Vice President for
Diversity at Disney/ABC Television Group and know that he’s
succeeded at every step along the way.

Law School Completes Outstanding Fundraising Year

UC Davis School of Law raised nearly $1.5 million in private support
during the 2009-10 fiscal year, topping the $1 million mark for the
fourth time in the past five years and achieving several significant
development goals despite one of the most challenging economic
environments in decades.
