Raha Jorjani Cited in a Petition for Writ of Certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court

An article by Raha Jorjani, staff attorney with the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic, is cited in a petition for a writ of certiorari submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Dormescar v. Holder. The petitioners cite Jorjani's paper, "Locked Up: Criminal and Immigration Incarceration in America," published in the DePaul Journal of Social Justice.

The issue in Dormescar is whether res judicata bars the government from instituting a second removal proceeding against an immigrant based on a conviction that could have been charged as the basis for removal in a prior removal proceedings that resulted in a final decision in the immigrant's favor. This issue is key to the work of the Immigration Law Clinic in defending noncitizens convicted of crimes who are in removal proceedings.  For more information regarding Dormescar, please see "Upcoming Petitions" on http://www.scotusblog.com/.
