Professor Ventry Comments for Bloomberg on Second-Home Mortgage Deduction

Professor Dennis Ventry commented for Bloomberg on the ability of U.S. taxpayers to deduct mortgage interest on a second home.  The exemption exists largely as a result of the influence of lawmakers from resort areas and provides almost no benefit in promoting homeownership, he said.

"If you want to know why it's there, it's there because of heavy lobbying," said Ventry.

Professor Ventry is an expert in tax policy and legal ethics. His research interests include tax expenditure analysis, family taxation, professional responsibility and standards of care, tax filing and administration, tax compliance, public finance, and tax and legal history. In addition, he was recently added as a co-author on the casebook, Legal Ethics and Corporate Practice.
