Dean Johnson Comments on Pro-Immigrant Marches for New American Media

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for New American Media on whether marches being staged by immigrant rights groups are beneficial to immigrants or counterproductive as Congress considers immigration reform.

Dean Johnson recalled the 2006 immigration reform marches and protests sparked by the "Sensenbrenner Bill," an immigration control measure sponsored by Wisconsin Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner. "We must remember that these marches were to protest an extremely harmful law, the Sensenbrenner Bill, but did nothing positive to achieve immigration reform," he said.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
