Professor Chin Comments on Arizona Plan to Allow 3Ls to Take Bar Exam

Professor Gabriel "Jack" Chin commented for the National Law Journal on a proposal backed by all three Arizona law schools that would allow third-year law students in that state to take the bar examination in February before they graduate.  Professor Chin proposed that the bar admission rules be amended to allow this while he was part of the University of Arizona faculty in 2011, leading to a proposal now set to be considered by the Arizona Supreme Court.

"I haven't met anybody who thinks students aren't ready to take the bar after five semesters," Chin said. "Given that, why do we make students incur this additional expense? I think there will be a lot of interest from other states looking to follow suit."

The Arizona Supreme Court approved the proposal on December 10.

Gabriel "Jack" Chin, who joined the King Hall faculty in 2011, is a prolific and much-cited criminal and immigration law scholar whose work has addressed many of the most pressing social issues of our time.
