Professor Joo Comments on Bay Bridge Construction Controversy

Professor Thomas Joo commented for the Sacramento Bee on a builder's reported failure to disclose problematic test results regarding the safety of the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The Bee reported that sonic wave tests of piles supporting the structure revealed that concrete had not hardened to the required strength in two areas, and sonic tests either were not performed or contained errors in other areas. According to the Bee, while the builder did not disclose these tests, it did disclose other, less negative tests.

Professor Joo said that if such a partial disclosure was misleading, it could be the basis for liability.

Joo, a professor at UC Davis School of Law, specializes in the areas of corporate governance and race and the law.
