Immigration Law Clinic Secures Client's Release from Detention

UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic students won another impressive victory in Immigration Court last week, winning a grant of relief and release from immigration detention for a 22-year-old Ukrainian refugee.

The client was facing deportation as a result of a conviction for aggravated assault.  Last year, Anel Carrasco '11 successfully led the argument that the client's actions did not constitute aggravated assault under existing Circuit law, making him eligible for relief.  Meline Mailyan '13 prepared documentary evidence and prepared witnesses for the client's final hearing, and in court, conducted an effective direct examination of her client, securing a grant of relief and release from detention.
