Professor Afsharipour Travels to India to Speak on Corporate Governance, Conduct Research

On December 9, 2011, Professor Afra Afsharipour delivered a lecture entitled "Independent Directors and the Trajectory of Corporate Governance Reforms in India" at the National Stock Exchange of India in Mumbai. The lecture was followed by a panel discussion with leading experts on corporate governance in India. In addition to Professor Afsharipour, the panelists included Dr. N Balasubramanian, Professor of Corporate Governance at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and Chairman, IIMB Centre for Corporate Governance and Citizenship; Cyril Shroff, managing partner of Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co., India's largest law firm; and Prithvi Haldea, Chairman & Managing Director of Prime Database and a leading expert on numerous committees related to India's primary capital markets.

While in India, Professor Afsharipour also conducted research in Mumbai and Delhi for a handbook for corporate directors of Indian public companies, discussing legal standards and board practices in corporate governance, risk management, and sustainability.  Professor Afsharipour is developing the handbook with The Conference Board, a global, independent business membership and research association working in the public interest.

Professor Afsharipour researches in the areas of comparative corporate law, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, mergers and acquisitions, and transactional law.
