Welcoming Chancellor Katehi and the Class of 2012

There's been no shortage of activity here at King Hall. Today is the first full day of classes, although for some faculty, staff and 1L students, the school year actually began in earnest last Sunday - with the Intro Week Welcome BBQ, Alumni Board meeting, and Building Construction Tour attended by board members and the new Chancellor!

Chancellor Linda Katehi started her new job a day ahead of schedule, joining us for the alumni board meeting and the building tour. Dateline, the UC Davis news bulletin for faculty and staff, reported on the Chancellor's visit for the lead story in its most recent issue. Here's the story and picture that were on the front page: http://dateline.ucdavis.edu/default.lasso?issue=08/21/2009.

Then it was on to an event that has become a grand Law School tradition: the Intro Week Welcome BBQ at Putah Creek Lodge. Members of the Class of 2012 met one another and the King Hall community. As a newcomer to UC Davis herself, Chancellor Katehi said she shared their feelings of excitement at the beginning of the academic year and expressed her support for King Hall. "A great university cannot exist without having great professional schools," she said. "That's why my support for the School of Law will be unconditional."

We have a great new group of 1Ls. Meet some of them here: http://www.law.ucdavis.edu/news/news.aspx?id=2281.

It was exciting to have the Chancellor launch her first year by participating in activities at King Hall, especially considering her tight schedule. Immediately after the BBQ, she hopped on a red-eye flight to Washington, D.C. for a meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton! We were honored by her presence, and we continue to be grateful for her support of the School of Law.
