Professor Cruz Reynoso and Independent Civil Rights Commission to Investigate Gutierrez Shooting

Ten months after the shooting death of Woodland resident Luis Gutierrez, the independent civil rights commission chaired by former California Supreme Court Justice and UC Davis Law Professor Cruz Reynoso will hold hearings this weekend.

As widely reported in the media, two undercover Yolo County Sheriff's deputies shot 26-year-old Gutierrez as he walked home from the DMV on April 30, 2009.  Yolo County District Attorney's Office and state Department of Justice ruled the killing as justified, even though documents show Gutierrez was shot in the back.

Witnesses will testify at this weekend's hearings.
