Message from the Alumni Board President
Dear Alumni and Friends,
It is with a great sense of honor, humility, excitement, and some sadness that I write to you as your new King Hall Alumni Association Board President. As you may know, I will be serving out the remainder of the term of the late John Schick '72, who was our President until his untimely death in December. John was a wonderful person and a devoted alumnus, and he is greatly missed by all of us in the King Hall community.
Despite my sadness at John's passing, I feel privileged to assume this position at a time of excitement, progress, and change at UC Davis School of Law. Dean Johnson continues to lead the Law School to new heights, recruiting superstar additions to our faculty from Stanford, Berkeley, Harvard, and other top schools. Our students are achieving great things in national and international competitions and making a difference in our communities through their work with our award-winning clinical programs. But perhaps the most exciting change has been the King Hall expansion and renovation. If you haven’t been by to see the new building, you need to return for a visit! From the completely upgraded classrooms to the basement filled with windows letting in natural light, to the comfortable and modern student lounge, the change is phenomenal and cannot be adequately put into words.
I also assume this position during a time of great fiscal challenges. When I attended Law School from 1997- 2000, I paid approximately $11,000 each year. Since then, fees have more than quadrupled, and students are now paying more than $46,000 annually. Now, more than ever, our students need the financial support of alumni like us.
King Hall is truly an exciting and dynamic place. I hope that you, like me, look back on your law school experience with much fondness. If you have never volunteered for King Hall or haven’t for a while, I hope you will find it in yourself to give back a little—whether by agreeing to talk to a current student about your area of expertise, volunteering at King Hall (there are numerous volunteer opportunities for alumni near and far), or contributing to our Scholarship Fund to help ease the current students’ financial burden. Thank you for anything and everything you can do!
Class of 2000
President, Alumni Association Board
