Justice Rebecca Wiseman '80 Receives Rose Bird Memorial Award

Justice Rebecca Wiseman '80 is being honored by the California Women Lawyers (CWL) with the 2014 Rose Bird Memorial Award.

Justice Wiseman retired from the Fifth District Court of Appeal in October 2013. After graduating from King Hall, Wiseman practiced engineering malpractice law for a year before joining the Kern County District Attorney's Office, where she worked for five years. In 1986, she was appointed to the Bakersfield County Municipal Court, and in 1991 she became the first woman appointed to the Kern County Superior Court. In 1996, Governor Pete Wilson appointed her to the Fifth District Court, where she was the second woman to serve.

The Rose Bird Memorial Award was established in 2000 in honor of the first woman to serve as Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court, Rose Bird. Each year CWL accepts nominees for the Rose Bird Memorial Award who are evaluated for excellence as a jurist and longstanding and/or groundbreaking public service and inspiration to women lawyers in California.
