King Hall Shines in Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

King Hall students John Melis '14, Daniel Arkof '15, Junyong Huang '15, Ronny Hamed '15, and Sammy Duvvuri '15 ably represented UC Davis at the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition held at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland on February 28-March 2.

For the first time since 2010, King Hall advanced to the quarterfinals. The team had an exceptionally strong showing at the preliminary rounds, defeating Cal Western, Loyola, and Santa Clara. At the quarterfinals, Arkof and Duvvuri narrowly lost to UC Hastings, the eventual first-place winner of the competition. In addition, Duvvuri was rated the 8th place oralist out of about 90 competitors.

The team is extremely grateful to Barbara Miltner for her invaluable assistance with the highly technical maritime law, and to Professor Karima Bennoune for teaching the team the framework and principles of international law. The team also thanks Jimmy McBirney '08 for arranging a valuable practice at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP in San Francisco.
