Professor Sunder Delivers Carhart Lecture at Ohio Northern University School of Law

On October 7, Professor Madhavi Sunder was the distinguished Carhart Lecturer at the Ohio Northern University Law School, where she delivered a talk on "Copyright in the Participation Age."

Her talk concerned whether "the next great copyright act" in the U.S. would account for rights to participate in cultural works, from fan fiction to mash-ups. She argued that copyright law must concern itself not just with the production and expression by professional creators, but also with ensuring the ability of ordinary citizens to critically engage and repurpose popular cultural works. Enlightenment derives not just from promoting more books, but more book clubs and opportunities to discuss, debate, and critically engage the culture around us, she stated.

Madhavi Sunder is a Professor of Law at King Hall whose special interests included intellectual property, law and culture studies, women's rights, and international intellectual property.
