Claire White '15 to Receive National Lawyers Guild C.B. King Award

Claire White '15 has been honored with the 2013 National Lawyers Guild (NLG) C.B. King Law Student Award, which is given each year to a law student whose commitment to the struggle for justice is an example to others.  The award will be presented at the 76th Annual Law for the People Convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 26.

White, who served in the U.S. Air Force from 2006-1012 as a staff sergeant and Arabic linguist, has worked for the NLG in a wide range of positions over the past year, including King Hall NLG Publicity and Outreach Chair, co-coordinator NLG Sacramento Area Chapter, and King Hall NLG President-elect, in addition to building the NLGSac website.  She also served as treasurer of the King Hall Veterans Association, and as a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award committee.  Among her many public service activities, she conducted Know Your Rights training sessions at homeless encampments, community colleges, union meetings, and other sites, and conducted research as part of the defense team for the Beale 9, a group of Veterans For Peace activists arrested at Beale Air Force Base.
