Professor Joslin Comments on Supreme Court and Same-Sex Marriage

Professor Courtney Joslin commented for the Sacramento Bee on the prospects of a U.S. Supreme Court hearing of the numerous cases seeking review involving same-sex marriage. The Court was considering whether to review the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit striking down California's same-sex marriage ban, Proposition 8, as well as a number of decisions striking down the federal same-sex marriage ban, the Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA. Joslin predicted that the Supreme Court might take up one or more of the DOMA cases.

On December 7, the Court announced that it would hear the Prop. 8 case and one of the DOMA cases, United States v. Windsor.

Professor Joslin is a scholar in the field of family and relationship recognition, with a particular focus on same-sex and non-marital couples.
