Brenden Blake '12 Wins Parole Grant for Prison Clinic Client

Brenden Blake '12, working under the direction of Millard A. Murphy, supervising attorney for the UC Davis School of Law Prison Law Clinic, recently succeeded in winning a grant of parole for a clinic client who has been incarcerated since 1969. 

Blake began meeting with the client in 2010, visiting him and working to address the factors cited by the parole board in his most recent denial of parole in 2009.  In a hearing on June 27, they presented their case to the board, which found him "suitable for release."  The client's parole grant will now be subjected to a mandatory 120-day review by the board, after which Governor Jerry Brown has 30 days to review the decision.  Blake said he is hopeful that the client will gain release in approximately 130 days, and credited Professor Murphy for his guidance and instruction throughout the process.
