Dean Johnson Contributes to Immigration Debate on MSNBC.com, Comments for KKSF

Dean Kevin R. Johnson contributed an essay to an online debate on the MSNBC website regarding whether the term "illegal immigrants" ought to be used by media to describe noncitizens who are in the United States without proper authorization.  He also commented on the issue in an interview on Bay Area news talk radio station KKSF.

In an interview on the KKSF program Gil Gross, Dean Johnson reiterated his concerns about terms like "illegal immigrant" and talked about the need for immigration policy "that is sensible and enforceable rather than unrealistic and overbroad."  He also addressed economic issues related to immigration and the need to enforce basic labor protections for all workers.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
