Immigration Law Clinic Students Secure Client's Release From Detention

King Hall Immigration Law Clinic students working under the supervision of Staff Attorney Raha Jorjani won two cases last week, securing the release of one client and restoring permanent legal resident status for another. 

Students Tom Morris '13 and Uzair Saleem '13 secured the release from immigration detention of a lawful permanent resident.  They also helped the client, who suffers from substance abuse, to secure release from criminal custody, and transported her to a rehabilitation facility following her release on December 9.

Also on December 9, Immigration Law Clinic student Mohammad Sakrani '12 succeeded in restoring lawful permanent resident status for a client who had taken into immigration detention in August 2010.  Sakrani worked with Anders Nelson '11 and Taleen Aiazian '11 prior to their graduation, helping the client to vacate two prior convictions for illegal entry, reopening his case in immigration court, vacating his removal order, winning bond, and helping to raise bond money before finally securing the client's releasen last year.
