Professor Frank Appointed to Fish and Game Review Commission

Professor Rick Frank has been appointed by California's Secretary for Natural Resources John Laird to serve on a "Blue Ribbon Citizen Commission" convened to help the Brown Administration determine how to reform the California Department of Fish and Game and the state's related Fish and Game Commission.

The review process and creation of the Citizen Commission are mandated by recently-enacted legislation (AB 2376) requiring the administration to address longstanding policy and fiscal problems associated with the state's management of its fish and wildlife resources. The Blue Ribbon Citizen Commission will assist California Fish and Wildlife Strategic Vision Executive Committee, in conjunction with the Stakeholder Advisory Group, in developing the Fish and Wildlife Strategic Vision as to how to improve and enhance the Department of Fish and Game's capacity and effectiveness in fulfilling its public trust responsibilities for the protection and management of the state's fish and wildlife, for their ecological values, and for the benefit of the people of the state.

Frank, a 1974 graduate of King Hall, is the founding Director of the new California Environmental Law and Policy Center at UC Davis School of Law.
