Scott Vignos '11, Saira Aguilar '11 Argue Before Ninth Circuit

Scott Vignos '11 and Saira Aguilar '11 presented oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on November 2.  Appearing before Judges Sidney R. Thomas, Sandra S. Ikuta, and Jane A. Restani, the students were poised and professional in representing a UC Davis School of Law Immigration Clinic client.

The Immigration Clinic had been appointed by the Ninth Circuit to represent the pro bono petitioner on the issue of whether sufficient evidence existed in the record to render the client deportable and whether en banc precedent had been interpreted inconsistently by later three judge panels.

Professor Holly S. Cooper, who supervised the students, said that thanks were due to Dong Zee '08, Kathy Brady, Mike Mehr, James Fife, and Scott Grzenczyk '11 for helping the students prepare.

"Both Scott and Saira worked diligently and zealously to defend our client, and both students' ideas and research significantly enhanced our arguments," Professor Cooper said.
