Luis Alejo '01 Wins Assembly Nomination

Luis Alejo '01, currently serving as Watsonville's mayor pro tem, has secured the Democratic nomination for the California 28th District Assembly seat, defeating two Democratic rivals in the June 8 primary.

A grandchild of migrant farm workers, Alejo was elected to the Watsonville City Council in November 2008 and was selected in March 2009 to serve as mayor. Since 2007, he has worked providing free legal assistance to those who cannot afford representation at the Monterey Courthouse in family, civil, and small claims cases.
