International Law Programs Hosts Courses for Petrobras Attorneys
The International Law Programs (ILP) at UC Davis School of Law is hosting 25 attorneys from Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras), the Brazilian energy company, for a two-week intensive educational program on international commercial, energy and contract law at King Hall from November 2-13. The Petrobras attorneys are receiving instruction from Associate Dean Vikram Amar (Introduction to U.S. Civil Procedure), Professor Andrea Bjorklund (Choice of Law & Jurisdiction), Professor Donna Shestowsky (Negotiating Contracts Disputes) as well as other internationally recognized legal scholars. This program is part of a long-term relationship between Petrobras and UC Davis School of Law.
Petrobras was incorporated in 1953 and has developed into a leader among global energy companies. The company received awards in 1992 and 2001 from the Offshore Technology Conference and has established itself as the top global reference in ethics and sustainability based on 387 international indicators including lower pollutant emissions and oil leaks, less power consumption and a transparent vendor service system. Using these criteria, a Management & Excellence survey ranked Petrobras the most sustainable energy company in 2008.
Part of the program schedule includes the Petrobras attorneys' attendance at the Fenwick & West TESLaw Symposium hosted by King Hall on November 6. The symposium covers clean-energy technology topics such as government regulation, technology transfer, financial incentives, and development of a greener economy.
