Admissions Workshop Offered by Students Interested in Diversity
More than 100 undergraduate students from across the region attended a law school admissions workshop at UC Davis School of Law on October 17. The event was organized by King Hall student groups and For People of Color, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people of color to enter the legal profession.
"The admissions workshop was a great success. Capacity turnout and as a diverse a group of students as I have ever seen at an event at King Hall," said Dean Kevin R. Johnson. "We had students from all over Northern California, and 72 percent of the registrants were women." Dean Johnson and Professor Keith Aoki participated in informational panels at the workshop.
Norma Nava, vice-president of For People of Color, Inc. provided tips on how to complete a successful law school application. In addition, the workshop included law student and attorney panels, resume and personal statement review sessions, LSAT workshops, a financial aid presentation, and much more.
This student-run event was co-sponsored by the Coalition for Diversity, La Raza Law Students Association, Black Law Students Association, Middle Eastern & South Asian Law Students Association, Korean American Law Students Association, National Lawyers Guild at King Hall, LAMBDA and the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association to help ensure that the student bodies at law schools across the nation reflect the diversity of our communities, including people of color, people with disabilities, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, as well as people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.
