Marlon Cobar '00 Gains Life Sentence for Inmate in Manslaughter Conviction
A U.S. District Court Judge sentenced Juwan Tonay Ferguson to life in prison for the voluntary manslaughter of his cellmate at Atwater Federal Penitentiary in a case prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Marlon Cobar '00. It was Cobar's first homicide trial and his first life sentence.
"This was a brutal and exceptionally violent crime, and warranted vigorous prosecution whether committed outside or inside prison walls," said United States Attorney Lawrence G. Brown '89 in a Department of Justice press release. "The defendant's lengthy criminal history fully supported the severe sentence imposed."
