Professor Amann Praises Obama Nobel Prize in Huffington Post
Professor Diane Marie Amann contributed an op-ed to the Huffington Post praising the Norwegian Nobel Committee's recent decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to President Barack Obama.
Professor Amann called the award "a most welcome endorsement of the efforts of all in the new administration... who are doing the very hard work of reinforcing the United States' position as a leader in the global community."
Professor Amann also noted that some have questioned the legitimacy of awarding the Nobel Prize only nine months into the Obama presidency. "Such questions ignore just how much Obama and his administration in fact have accomplished in that short time," she countered, listing accomplishments including orders to close the detention camp at Guantánamo Bay and end illegal interrogation practices and the restoration of high-level diplomatic relations with Iran.
Diane Marie Amann is Professor of Law at the UC Davis School of Law and Director of the California International Law Center at King Hall (CILC).
